An XML Application for Neuronal Morphology Data

MorphML provides an eXtensible Markup language (XML) application for the neuroinformatic data exchange of neuronal morphology data. This application is consistent with current digitization methods and is also compatible with existing simulation software environments for creating model neurons based on morphology data. MorphML is part of a larger effort to create standards for data and model specification for neuroscience. In this role, MorphML provides the NeuroML Level 1 standards. The NeuroML Level 2 standards are provided by ChannelML which links the biophysical properties of neurons including ion channel kinetics to a neuronal morphology specified with MorphML. MorphML can be used alone for neuroanatomical applications or it can be used within this wider context of NeuroML documents.

Check out our NeuroML Validator page to validate NeuroML Level 1 and Level 2 documents... and more!

Special thanks to all the contributors to the effort to develop standards for data and model specification including Fred Howell, Robert Cannon, Padraig Gleeson, Joseph Svitak, Weihong Qi, Hugo Cornelis, Laszlo Zaborszky, Zoltan Nadasdy, Michael Hines, Sushil Kambampati, Tom Morse, Dave Beeman, and Nicola McDonnell.
